#8 of 8 hotels in Laugardalur by Axel's take. Laugardalur is #5 of 5 places to stay in Reykjavik. The best hotels in Laugardalur, ranked · Where to stay in Reykjavik
Axel's take: 6.9/10
A practical budget base, but tiny rooms and noise are real compromises. A no-frills budget hotel near Reykjavík’s waterfront, outside the downtown core, scored for what it is.
Hotel Cabin is a no-frills budget hotel that makes most sense for short stays spent exploring rather than relaxing indoors. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and generally clean rooms. Nearby buses, tour pickups and free parking make it practical, while the waterfront is close and the main shopping street is roughly a 20-minute walk away. We'd consider it for a budget-focused sightseeing trip, particularly in a larger Superior room.
The compromises are substantial: standard rooms and showers are exceptionally cramped, some budget rooms lack an outside window, and thin walls recur across review sites. Breakfast gets mixed marks; check whether your booking includes it. Construction beside the hotel was still reported in August 2026, and the hotel's published notice gives no reliable current completion date. We'd skip it for light sleepers or anyone wanting space and a central doorstep location.
-
Best for: Budget travelers spending days out; Short stays with organized tours; Drivers needing free parking
-
Watch out for: Tiny rooms; some without outside windows; Thin walls and corridor noise; Adjacent construction; confirm current disruption
-
Location: Near the waterfront and bus connections; roughly 20 minutes on foot to the main shopping street.
-
Rooms: Standard rooms are very cramped; Superior rooms offer more space, so choose the category carefully.
-
Cleanliness: Generally praised in recent reviews, though room condition varies.
-
Service: Helpful reception staff are a recurring strength, with occasional reports of inconsistent assistance.
-
Amenities: Free parking and Wi-Fi, a lobby bar and buffet breakfast cover the basics.
-
Fees and surprises: Breakfast inclusion varies by booking; nearby construction has an unclear completion date.
