Axel's take: 8.6/10

A characterful central base, with excellent cleanliness but some nightlife noise. a historic Art Deco 4-star in central Reykjavik, scored for what it is.

Hotel Borg is a historic Art Deco 4-star overlooking Austurvöllur square, and a strong pick for exploring Reykjavik on foot. Its appeal is character rather than resort-style luxury: distinctive interiors, comfortable beds and restaurants close by. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise cleanliness and helpful staff, making this a convincing choice for a comfortable city break.

The central address brings trade-offs. Some guests report nightlife noise and warm, stuffy rooms; room size and storage also vary. Light sleepers should request a room away from the street, while anyone wanting reliably cool bedrooms should look elsewhere. Breakfast and spa access aren't automatically included in every booking—the hotel specifically includes spa entry with direct reservations. We'd choose Borg for atmosphere and walkability, not all-inclusive pampering.

  • Best for: couples on a city break; Art Deco enthusiasts; travelers exploring without a car

  • Watch out for: nightlife noise in some rooms; warm rooms and variable storage; breakfast and spa inclusions vary

  • Location: Overlooks Austurvöllur, with downtown sights, restaurants and shopping within walking distance.

  • Rooms: Distinctive Art Deco styling and comfortable beds; some guests find rooms small or stuffy.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback, especially on Expedia.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff earn repeated praise.

  • Amenities: Small gym and spa with hot tub, sauna and steam facilities; breakfast buffet available.

  • Fees and surprises: Check breakfast and spa inclusions; direct bookings include spa access, and nearby public parking is paid.
