#9 of 9 hotels in Laugavegur & Hallgrímskirkja by Axel's take. Laugavegur & Hallgrímskirkja is #2 of 5 places to stay in Reykjavik. The best hotels in Laugavegur & Hallgrímskirkja, ranked · Where to stay in Reykjavik

Axel's take: 7.7/10

A practical budget base with excellent walkability, but little hands-on hospitality. A simple, self-service hostel near Hallgrímskirkja, scored for what it is.

B47 is a simple, self-service hostel with dorms and private rooms, not a conventional two-star hotel. It’s a good-value base for independent travelers: Hallgrímskirkja and Laugavegur are close, Sundhöllin public pool is next door, and free parking is a useful extra. Booking.com and Hotels.com guests regularly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and the communal kitchen.

The trade-off is limited hands-on service. Recent reviews across several sites describe absent staff, occasional missing or incorrect entry codes, and a less sociable atmosphere than a staffed backpacker hostel. Noise from other guests can interrupt sleep, and most room types share bathrooms. Confirm your access instructions before arrival and check kitchen hours before relying on an early breakfast. We’d pick it for location and practical savings, but skip it for attentive service or guaranteed quiet.

  • Best for: Independent travelers on a budget; Road-trippers wanting central parking; Groups happy with hostel basics

  • Watch out for: Limited on-site staff and occasional access-code problems; Shared bathrooms in most room types; Noise from fellow guests

  • Location: Walkable to Hallgrímskirkja and Laugavegur, with Sundhöllin public pool next door.

  • Rooms: Basic dorms and private rooms; beds generally earn praise, but soundproofing is not assured.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive across major sites, including shared bathrooms, with occasional recent lapses.

  • Service: Code-based self-check-in; help can be responsive, but staff presence and problem handling vary.

  • Amenities: Shared kitchen, lounge, garden terrace, free Wi-Fi and free parking; linens and towels included.

  • Fees and surprises: Late checkout costs extra; confirm bathroom type, entry codes and kitchen access hours.
