Axel's take: 8.1/10

A comfortable base with strong service, but check transition details before booking. a full-service 4-star business hotel outside Reykjavik’s sightseeing core, scored for what it is.

This full-service 4-star is a strong pick for drivers and business travelers rather than doorstep sightseeing. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, clean rooms and generous breakfast; free parking adds practical value. Rooms generally deliver comfortable Hilton basics, although some furnishings and bathrooms feel dated. It is a good base, not a luxury retreat.

The main compromise is location: expect a substantial walk or transport to the central sights. There is also a recent operational change: Íslandshótel took over on September 1, 2026, renaming it Hilton Reykjavík. The current operator confirms a working spa and gym, despite the former spa website announcing closure. Some booking listings flag renovations through September 2027, so confirm room, lobby and spa disruption directly. Spa admission costs extra, and housekeeping is now on request. We'd skip it for a short, entirely walkable city break.

• Best for: travelers with rental cars; business and conference guests; tour-based stays

• Watch out for: outside the main sightseeing core; renovation notices need direct confirmation; paid spa access and on-request housekeeping

• Location: Practical for driving and tours; central sightseeing requires a longer walk or transport.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and well equipped, with some dated furnishings and bathrooms.

• Cleanliness: Consistently praised across guest sites; the new operator provides housekeeping on request.

• Service: Helpful staff are a recurring strength, though most available feedback predates the operator change.

• Amenities: Current facilities include DOM Brasserie & Bar, a gym, hot tubs, sauna and spa; spa entry is restricted to ages 16 and over.

• Fees and surprises: Free parking subject to availability; breakfast depends on the booking, spa admission is extra, and lodging tax is charged on arrival.
