Axel's take: 8.1/10

Warm service and refreshed rooms shine, but the dining operation still needs checking. An upscale, family-friendly all-inclusive beach resort in Marina Vallarta, scored for what it is.

This upscale beachfront resort became The Westin Playa Vallarta, an All-Inclusive Resort in May 2026, following a substantial renovation. We'd shortlist it for relaxed pool days, comfortable rooms and genuinely attentive service: Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the staff and housekeeping. Redesigned suites, palm-filled grounds and separate adult and family pools make it appealing for couples and families who want an easy resort stay near the marina.

The caution is dining consistency, not the welcome. Post-relaunch guests describe uneven restaurant availability and limited evening choices, although others praise the food. August 2026 guests reported Arrecifes closed for construction; confirm its reopening before booking, while Marriott still lists SABIA as coming soon and outside the inclusive package. We'd skip it for a downtown-focused trip or if a fully available specialty-dining lineup is essential. Evidence on the new all-inclusive operation remains thinner than the hotel's long-established reputation.

• Best for: Families wanting relaxed pool days; Couples seeking an easy all-inclusive break; Travelers who prefer Marina Vallarta

• Watch out for: Confirm Arrecifes reopening after reported construction; Specialty-dining availability can be limited; Not a walk-out base for downtown

• Location: Beachfront near the airport and marina restaurants; downtown sightseeing requires transport.

• Rooms: Marriott lists 281 redesigned suites, including selected swim-up and private plunge-pool options.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength: recent guests praise housekeeping, and Expedia scores cleanliness highly.

• Service: The clearest standout, with repeated praise across Tripadvisor, Expedia and Reddit.

• Amenities: Adult and family pools, kids club, spa, gym and racket courts; don't assume the catalog's water park exists.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is complimentary; cabanas and pets cost extra, and SABIA is excluded from all-inclusive dining.
