Axel's take: 7.8/10

A practical airport stopover, with breakfast and a pool offsetting compact rooms. a no-frills 3-star hotel within walking distance of Puerto Vallarta airport, scored for what it is.

One Puerto Vallarta Aeropuerto is a no-frills 3-star that makes most sense for a night before or after a flight. We'd pick it for convenience rather than vacation atmosphere: guests repeatedly praise the short airport walk, included Mexican-style breakfast and helpful staff. The outdoor pool is a useful extra for this class, and recent Expedia guests generally describe clean, functional rooms.

The compromises are space and consistency. Standard queen rooms are just 15 square meters according to the hotel, and guests on several sites find them cramped. Reviews also flag occasional housekeeping and maintenance lapses, including hot-water problems; some mention traffic or hallway noise. These aren't the dominant experience, but we'd request a room away from the road. It's a sensible short-stay choice; we'd skip it for a spacious, beach-focused holiday.

• Best for: early departures and late arrivals; budget-conscious overnight travelers; short business stays

• Watch out for: compact rooms with limited luggage space; possible road and hallway noise; uneven maintenance and housekeeping

• Location: A short walk from the airport; practical for flights rather than a beach-centered stay.

• Rooms: Basic, air-conditioned rooms; standard queens are listed at 15 square meters.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive recent feedback, with some notable housekeeping lapses.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength, though experiences vary.

• Amenities: Included hot buffet breakfast, outdoor pool, Wi-Fi and self-service laundry facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists complimentary parking; breakfast is included, but room space is limited.
