Axel's take: 8.0/10

Friendly service and a lovely beach outweigh uneven rooms at this family all-inclusive. a mid-range beachfront all-inclusive for families in Nuevo Nayarit, scored for what it is.

Occidental Nuevo Vallarta is a mid-range beachfront all-inclusive in Nuevo Nayarit, not central Puerto Vallarta. We'd choose it for an uncomplicated family beach break rather than a luxury escape. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming restaurant and bar staff, while recent Expedia reviews generally support its strong cleanliness ratings. The beach, kids' club and manageable resort layout are the main draws; food earns plenty of praise, though opinions on buffet variety differ.

The bigger reservation is room consistency: summer 2026 Tripadvisor and Expedia guests report maintenance problems and ineffective air-conditioning, despite many positive stays. Buffet seating can also get crowded. We'd skip it if reliably polished rooms or easy access to downtown nightlife matter most. Check your room's balcony description and Royal Level inclusions before booking.

• Best for: families wanting an easy beach break; value-minded all-inclusive travelers; couples prioritizing beach over nightlife

• Watch out for: recurring room maintenance and air-conditioning complaints; busy buffet at peak times; downtown Puerto Vallarta requires a drive

• Location: Beachfront in Nuevo Nayarit; the hotel estimates 45 minutes to downtown Puerto Vallarta.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, but maintenance varies; choose a balcony category explicitly if that matters.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive recent feedback, with stronger overall cleanliness ratings than isolated complaints suggest.

• Service: Warm restaurant and bar staff are the most consistently praised feature across sites.

• Amenities: Outdoor pools, kids' club for ages 4–12, gym, tennis and spa; some facilities are Royal Level-only.

• Fees and surprises: Wi-Fi and parking are free; spa access costs extra, and room service has separate pricing.
