Good-value studios for exploring Playa, with fewer comforts for staying in. a simple 3-star aparthotel in downtown Playa del Carmen, scored for what it is.

Studio 30 is a simple 3-star aparthotel, and we'd pick it for space and convenience rather than hotel facilities. Its roomy studios have kitchens and full-size fridges, with Walmart and plenty of places to eat nearby. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the central location, comfortable beds and helpful reception staff. It's a practical, good-value base for travelers spending their days at the beach or on excursions.

The trade-offs are straightforward: there's no pool or elevator, and housekeeping isn't daily—the official rooms page specifies cleaning every two days. Road noise appears in guest feedback, while some travelers find the kitchen utensils sparse. Cleanliness feedback is mostly positive, though not uniformly so. We'd skip it if you need step-free access, dependable quiet or the facilities of a beach resort.

• Best for: budget-minded couples; families wanting kitchen facilities; travelers out exploring all day

• Watch out for: upper floors reached by stairs; road noise in some studios; no pool or daily housekeeping

• Location: Downtown, near Walmart and restaurants; Fifth Avenue and the beach are walkable.

• Rooms: Spacious, air-conditioned studios with kitchens and full-size fridges; kitchen equipment can be basic.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive feedback, with some exceptions; official policy specifies cleaning every two days.

• Service: Helpful reception staff earn repeated praise across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception; no pool, elevator or on-site parking.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists possible early check-in and late check-out charges; confirm arrangements directly.
