Axel's take: 7.6/10

Pick it for the beach and adult-only spaces, not five-star polish. an adults-only club within a large, family-friendly beachfront all-inclusive, scored for what it is.

Select Club is the adults-only section of a sprawling, family-friendly all-inclusive, not a separate adults-only resort. We'd choose it for Playacar's wide beach and dedicated adult spaces rather than luxury. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the beachfront setting and friendly staff; cleanliness generally scores well too. It's a good fit for couples wanting beach days with plenty of resort facilities.

The compromises are dated rooms, uneven maintenance and mixed dining feedback, with restaurant reservations sometimes difficult. More importantly, Air Canada Vacations currently reports half the Select Pool closed for maintenance, with full reopening expected October 31, 2026. Select Club's Ocean Front Snack breakfast and several other food outlets are also suspended until an expected November 1 reopening. Confirm those dates before booking. We'd skip it for polished five-star service, a compact layout or a completely child-free holiday.

Best for: beach-focused couples; adults wanting a large resort with dedicated adult spaces; travelers prioritizing facilities over room polish
Watch out for: Partial Select Pool closure through expected October 31, 2026 reopening; Dated rooms and uneven maintenance; Shared resort areas welcome children
Location: On Playacar's broad beach; the sprawling grounds mean substantial walking between facilities.
Rooms: Oceanfront options draw praise for views, but dated finishes and unresolved maintenance recur in reviews.
Cleanliness: Generally well rated, including 8.4/10 on Expedia, despite occasional complaints.
Service: Friendly staff and Select Club concierge earn praise; maintenance follow-through is less consistent.
Amenities: Adult pool and beach areas plus wider resort facilities; Select Pool is currently only partly operational.
Fees and surprises: Environmental tax and a card hold apply; spa treatments cost extra. Ocean Front Snack breakfast, Gaucho Breakfast, Riviera Blue Snack and 9 Miles Family Area Snacks are suspended until an expected November 1, 2026 reopening.
