Axel's take: 7.8/10

A good-value downtown base, but choose your room carefully and check the extras. a simple 3-star downtown hotel with a small pool, scored for what it is.

Casa Maca is a simple 3-star downtown hotel, strongest as a good-value base for exploring rather than a place to spend all day. Booking.com and Expedia guests broadly praise the helpful staff, clean rooms and convenient location. The beach, Fifth Avenue and Cozumel ferry are roughly a 10–15-minute walk away, while the small pool adds somewhere to cool off. Selected suites and apartments have kitchenettes.

Room choice matters: some basic rooms lack exterior windows, and reviews flag noise and bathroom plumbing or drain smells often enough to warrant caution. The hotel also lists limited reception hours and extra charges for luggage storage, cleaning and towel changes. We'd pick it for travelers prioritizing location and value; light sleepers and anyone expecting daily housekeeping or full-service convenience should look elsewhere.

• Best for: budget-conscious couples and solo travelers; travelers exploring downtown on foot; families booking kitchenette apartments

• Watch out for: some rooms lack exterior windows; noise and recurring bathroom complaints; limited reception and housekeeping extras

• Location: Downtown Avenida Juárez, roughly 10–15 minutes on foot from the beach, Fifth Avenue and ferry.

• Rooms: Simple air-conditioned studios, suites and apartments; exterior windows and kitchenettes depend on category.

• Cleanliness: Broadly positive feedback, though several guests report bathroom drain smells or plumbing faults.

• Service: Helpful staff draw consistent praise; reception hours are limited, so arrange arrival in advance.

• Amenities: Small outdoor pool, terrace and free Wi-Fi; no onsite parking, and upper floors require stairs.

• Fees and surprises: The official site lists charges for luggage storage, cleaning, towel changes and pets; Booking.com also lists an environmental tax.
