#7 of 9 hotels in Karon Beach by Axel's take. Karon Beach is #4 of 12 places to stay in Phuket. The best hotels in Karon Beach, ranked · Where to stay in Phuket

Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong family beachfront pick, though the five-star polish is uneven. a five-star beachfront resort built around family-friendly water parks and pools, scored for what it is.

Centara Grand is a five-star family resort directly on Karon Beach, with no road between the grounds and the sand. We'd choose it for a pool-and-beach holiday rather than flawless luxury: the lazy river, waterslides and kids' club give families plenty to do. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the spacious rooms, breakfast choice and welcoming staff.

The trade-off is condition and consistency. Guests across both sites describe dated areas and maintenance needs, while service attracts occasional complaints about delays despite broadly positive feedback. Restaurants are expensive compared with eating outside, and shops require a walk along the beach or transport. It's a strong pick if you'll use the resort facilities; we'd skip it for sleek interiors, consistently polished service or doorstep town life.

  • Best for: families with water-loving children; beach-and-pool holidays; travelers who prefer staying within a resort

  • Watch out for: dated areas and uneven maintenance; costly on-site dining; shops and town life aren't on the doorstep

  • Location: Direct access to northern Karon Beach; less convenient for frequent trips to shops and restaurants.

  • Rooms: Spacious rooms with balconies or terraces, but recurring feedback describes dated interiors.

  • Cleanliness: Generally praised, with occasional housekeeping and shared-area lapses rather than consistently poor standards.

  • Service: Warm staff are a recurring strength, although check-in and response times can be uneven.

  • Amenities: Lazy river, waterslides, multiple pools, kids' club and spa are the main attractions.

  • Fees and surprises: Budget for comparatively expensive resort dining; check whether breakfast and transfers are included.
