#7 of 9 hotels in Phuket Town by Axel's take. Phuket Town is #3 of 12 places to stay in Phuket. The best hotels in Phuket Town, ranked · Where to stay in Phuket

Axel's take: 8.2/10

A friendly Old Town base with comfortable rooms, but some uneven edges. a design-led mid-range hotel near Phuket Old Town, scored for what it is.

Blu Monkey is a design-led mid-range city hotel, not a luxury resort despite its four-star listing. It’s a strong pick for exploring Phuket Town: Thalang Road and Bus Terminal 1 are within walking distance, and the coworking-style communal spaces give it a relaxed, sociable feel. Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. The outdoor pool and complimentary lobby drinks are useful extras rather than reasons to spend your whole holiday here.

The main reservation is consistency. Damp or drain smells recur across Tripadvisor and Trip.com feedback, though many newer guests report clean, comfortable stays. Sound insulation also draws complaints, and breakfast gets mixed reactions over variety and service. We’d choose it for a short city break, but skip it for a beach holiday or if quiet, reliably fresh-smelling rooms are non-negotiable.

Best for: Old Town food and market explorers; solo travelers who like communal spaces; short Phuket Town stays
Watch out for: recurring damp or drain-smell reports; variable sound insulation; mixed breakfast feedback
Location: Walkable to Old Town and Bus Terminal 1; this is a city base, not a beach hotel.
Rooms: Comfortable beds and balconies earn praise; outdoor bathtubs are limited to specific room types.
Cleanliness: Generally strong recent feedback, tempered by recurring damp and drain-smell reports.
Service: Helpful, welcoming reception staff are a consistent strength across review sites.
Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, coworking-style spaces, complimentary lobby drinks and paid laundry.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra depending on the booking; parking is free but can be limited.
