Axel's take: 8.4/10

Warm service makes this a strong city base, though some luxury polish is missing. a five-star city hotel near the waterfront and financial district, scored for what it is.

Waldorf Astoria Panama is a five-star city hotel whose strongest assets are its staff and location, rather than flawless luxury hardware. It’s a strong pick for a comfortable Panama City base, with restaurants nearby and the Cinta Costera waterfront a short walk away. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming service, clean rooms and comfortable beds. The seventh-floor outdoor pool, spa and on-site dining round out the stay.

The trade-off is uneven upkeep: guests across sites mention tired furnishings or pool finishes, with occasional air-conditioning and bathroom maintenance problems. Those reports don’t outweigh the broadly positive feedback, but they matter at Waldorf expectations. We’d choose it for attentive hospitality and city exploring; skip it if pristine contemporary interiors, extensive resort facilities or staying in Casco Viejo are priorities.

• Best for: couples exploring Panama City; business travelers; travelers who prioritize attentive service

• Watch out for: some dated furnishings and pool finishes; occasional room maintenance problems; not in Casco Viejo

• Location: Near the financial district, restaurants and Cinta Costera; separate from the old town.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and generally generous space; condition and views vary by room.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across sites, despite occasional lapses.

• Service: Warm, personalized attention is the clearest recurring strength.

• Amenities: Seventh-floor outdoor pool, hot tub, spa, gym, restaurants and bars; not a sprawling resort.

• Fees and surprises: Valet parking costs extra; check room-view descriptions rather than assuming an open panorama.
