Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong city base for bold design and friendly service, less suited to quiet escapes. a design-forward 5-star city hotel in the business district, scored for what it is.

W Panama is a design-forward 5-star in the business district, and we'd pick it for a lively city stay rather than hushed luxury. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the comfortable rooms, cleanliness and welcoming staff; recent Tripadvisor reviews also highlight spacious rooms, breakfast and an unusually good gym. The outdoor WET Deck pool and AWAY Spa round out a strong urban-hotel package.

The trade-offs are noise and privacy: Tripadvisor guests describe sound carrying between rooms, and some bathroom layouts leave washing areas open to the bedroom. Service earns far more praise than criticism, though problem handling isn't uniformly polished. Casco Viejo requires a ride rather than a stroll. We'd skip it if uninterrupted sleep, bathroom privacy or an old-town setting matters more than contemporary style.

• Best for: couples who enjoy lively design hotels; business travelers wanting strong leisure facilities; city explorers happy to take taxis

• Watch out for: sound carrying between rooms; open bathroom layouts in some rooms; not in Casco Viejo

• Location: Business-district base near restaurants and the metro; Casco Viejo is a drive away.

• Rooms: Comfortable, generously sized rooms with bold decor; check bathroom privacy and request a quiet location.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall ratings on Booking.com and Expedia, with occasional housekeeping misses rather than a dominant pattern.

• Service: Recent guests repeatedly praise friendly, helpful staff, although some Tripadvisor reports describe poor problem resolution.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, well-reviewed gym, spa, restaurants and bars; the official site does not list an indoor pool.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and pets carry extra charges; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking, and there is no hotel airport shuttle.
