Axel's take: 8.2/10

A comfortable, well-located city base, with renovation caveats to check before booking. a practical mid-range city hotel in El Cangrejo, scored for what it is.

TRYP Panamá Centro is a practical mid-range city hotel, and we'd pick it for comfortable rooms and convenience rather than luxury. Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the spacious rooms, comfortable beds, cleanliness and helpful staff. Restaurants and shops surround it, with Iglesia del Carmen metro a short walk away. It's a strong base for exploring Panama City without paying for a luxury address.

The main caveat is renovation uncertainty: published notices scheduled hallway work through October 31, 2026, and an August Expedia guest reported construction disrupting pool use and leaving the gym dusty. Other recent guests describe the rooftop pool positively, so confirm current access rather than assume it's closed. Room-maintenance niggles also appear, and breakfast isn't automatically included. We'd skip it for a facilities-focused escape, but shortlist it for a city break.

• Best for: value-minded city explorers; business travelers; couples who prioritize space and location

• Watch out for: renovation work scheduled through October 31, 2026; confirm rooftop pool and gym access; breakfast inclusion varies by booking

• Location: Walkable El Cangrejo setting near restaurants, shops and Iglesia del Carmen metro.

• Rooms: Spacious and comfortable overall; scattered reports of maintenance and key-card problems.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong guest feedback on rooms, bedding and housekeeping.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a recurring strength across review sites.

• Amenities: Rooftop outdoor pool, gym, restaurant and free Wi-Fi; verify construction-related disruption.

• Fees and surprises: Free self-parking is listed; breakfast may cost extra, and renovation completion remains unconfirmed.
