Axel's take: 9.3/10

A strong luxury pick for old-town exploring, waterfront views and genuinely attentive service. a waterfront 5-star luxury hotel in Panama City's historic Casco Viejo, scored for what it is.

This waterfront 5-star in Casco Viejo largely delivers on its luxury promise. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the attentive staff, spacious rooms and comfortable beds, while cleanliness earns particularly strong marks across platforms. We'd choose it for exploring the old town on foot without giving up a proper pool, spa and well-equipped gym. An oceanfront room with a balcony makes the most of the setting; check the category rather than assuming every room has that view.

The main reservation is atmosphere rather than quality: the rooftop bar and hotel events can bring music, so light sleepers should request a room away from entertainment areas. Breakfast inclusion varies, and parking costs extra. It's an excellent fit for couples combining sightseeing with hotel downtime; we'd skip it if guaranteed nighttime silence is essential.

• Best for: couples on a luxury city break; old-town sightseeing on foot; travelers wanting waterfront rooms

• Watch out for: rooftop and event music in some rooms; ocean views depend on room category; breakfast inclusion and parking charges

• Location: Waterfront Casco Viejo setting, within walking distance of museums, restaurants and historic sights.

• Rooms: Spacious, well-reviewed rooms; most, but not all, have sea views and balconies.

• Cleanliness: Exceptionally strong ratings, reinforced by recent praise for immaculate rooms.

• Service: Attentive, friendly staff are the most consistent strength across guest-review sites.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, spa, 24-hour gym, Caleta restaurant and a lively rooftop bar.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra; check breakfast inclusion and request distance from rooftop or event music.
