#9 of 9 hotels in Casco Viejo by Axel's take. Casco Viejo is #1 of 6 places to stay in Panama City. The best hotels in Casco Viejo, ranked · Where to stay in Panama City

Axel's take: 6.5/10

Convenient for the old town, but too many uncertainties for an easy recommendation. a no-frills budget hotel in Santa Ana near Casco Viejo, scored for what it is.

Hotel Riazor is a no-frills budget hotel in Santa Ana, near Casco Viejo rather than in its polished historic center. We'd consider it only for travelers comfortable with basic accommodation and the surrounding neighborhood. Google's 3.9/5 from 206 reviews is reasonably encouraging, but Expedia's much smaller sample scores just 3.8/10. Recent evidence is limited, and the official website could not be reached, so this is a cautious verdict rather than a confident recommendation.

The main reservations concern room condition, cleanliness and the immediate surroundings. Expedia reviews from 2024–2025 include complaints about unpleasant smells, poor maintenance and neighborhood discomfort; a January 2024 Tripadvisor review raises similar concerns. There is also some praise for hospitality and proximity to sights. We'd skip it for a first Panama City visit if reliable comfort and relaxed evening walks matter.

Best for: experienced budget travelers; short stays near the old town
Watch out for: guest concerns about the surrounding neighborhood; cleanliness and maintenance complaints; limited recent evidence
Location: Santa Ana, near Casco Viejo; several guests express discomfort with the immediate neighborhood.
Rooms: Basic accommodation; older guest reports describe poor maintenance and rooms falling short of photographs.
Cleanliness: Expedia's cleanliness score is 4.0/10; unpleasant smells also appear in older Tripadvisor feedback.
Service: Some hospitality praise, but an Expedia guest reported an unrecognized reservation and refund difficulties.
Amenities: Listings advertise Wi-Fi, a restaurant and bar; older guest feedback disputes restaurant availability and Wi-Fi reliability.
Fees and surprises: Confirm parking charges, booking recognition and operating amenities directly; current policies could not be verified.
