Axel's take: 6.5/10

A convenient city base, but tired rooms weaken the four-star promise. an aging 4-star city hotel in Marbella, scored for what it is.

Hospedium Princess is an aging 4-star city hotel in Marbella, best considered for its location rather than its finish. We'd consider it for a short, budget-conscious stay: restaurants and shops are nearby, and Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff. The hotel lists a pool, gym, sauna and restaurant, giving it more facilities than a basic overnight stop.

The trade-off is condition. Recent reviews across several sites describe worn furniture, tired carpets and recurring damp or musty smells; some also report unreliable air-conditioning or hot water. Plenty of guests still find their rooms clean and comfortable, so this isn't uniformly a bad stay, but the upkeep falls short of four-star expectations. We'd skip it if you're sensitive to damp smells or want reliably polished rooms.

• Best for: budget-conscious city visitors; short stays centered on Marbella

• Watch out for: recurring damp and musty-smell complaints; worn carpets and dated furniture; reports of unreliable air-conditioning and hot water

• Location: A consistent strength, with restaurants and shopping nearby; Booking.com rates location 8.8/10.

• Rooms: Some guests find rooms comfortable, but dated furnishings and maintenance problems recur.

• Cleanliness: Mixed: clean-room praise sits alongside repeated damp-smell and carpet complaints.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are frequently praised, though repair follow-through can disappoint.

• Amenities: The official site lists a pool, gym, sauna, spa, restaurant and Wi-Fi.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on the booking; the official engine excludes 10% tax and says American Express isn't accepted.
