Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong waterfront Hilton for spacious rooms and bay views, rather than boutique character. a large five-star waterfront tower with a casino, scored for what it is.

Hilton Panama is a large five-star waterfront hotel with a connected casino, and we'd pick it for comfortable rooms, bay views and a convenient city base. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful staff; Tripadvisor reviews also highlight spacious rooms and the breakfast spread. The rooftop pool, substantial gym and eforea spa give it appeal beyond business trips.

The trade-off is a big international-hotel experience rather than an intimate Panama stay. Casco Viejo requires a separate outing, and not every room has the same water outlook, so choose the category carefully. Breakfast isn't included in every booking, and valet parking costs extra. We'd skip it if historic-neighborhood atmosphere matters more than full-service facilities.

• Best for: business travelers; couples seeking bay views; families wanting full-service facilities

• Watch out for: room views vary by category; breakfast and valet can cost extra; not in historic Casco Viejo

• Location: On Avenida Balboa near the financial district and waterfront; Casco Viejo is a drive away.

• Rooms: Spacious, comfortable rooms are a recurring strength; distinguish city, partial-ocean and ocean-view categories.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia guest reports.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff receive strong overall praise, with occasional less-satisfied reports.

• Amenities: Rooftop pool, 24-hour gym, eforea spa, multiple dining venues and connected StarBay Casino.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; valet is charged, and Hilton lists no self-parking or airport shuttle.
