Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong central base with helpful staff and a rooftop worth visiting. a modern mid-range business hotel in Panama City's financial district, scored for what it is.

AC Hotel Panama City is a modern mid-range business hotel, not a luxury retreat. We'd pick it for a practical city stay: restaurants and Iglesia del Carmen metro are nearby, and the rooftop pool adds skyline views. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and comfortable rooms; the overall picture is reassuringly positive.

The trade-offs are consistency and scale. Tripadvisor reviews flag occasional housekeeping misses, delayed check-in and sound carrying between rooms, although these aren't the dominant experience. The rooftop pool is small, and recent feedback suggests limited lounging space—think cooling off rather than spending a resort-style afternoon. Breakfast also gets mixed reactions, so check whether it's included. It's a strong pick for business trips and city exploring; we'd skip it if quiet rooms or extensive leisure facilities are essential.

• Best for: business travelers; couples exploring the city; travelers wanting restaurants and metro access

• Watch out for: occasional room and hallway noise; small rooftop pool and limited lounging space; uneven housekeeping and check-in experiences

• Location: Financial-district base, roughly four minutes' walk from Iglesia del Carmen metro.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and contemporary; some Tripadvisor guests report thin walls.

• Cleanliness: Mostly praised in recent Expedia reviews, with occasional significant lapses reported on Tripadvisor.

• Service: Helpful staff are a recurring strength, though check-in and breakfast service can be uneven.

• Amenities: Rooftop pool, whirlpool, fitness center and restaurant; leisure facilities are compact.

• Fees and surprises: Self-parking is complimentary; breakfast may cost extra, and Marriott says no airport shuttle is provided.
