Axel's take: 7.9/10

A comfortable downtown base with welcoming staff, dated touches and no working pool. a traditional 4-star business hotel in downtown Ottawa, scored for what it is.

Sheraton Ottawa is a traditional 4-star business hotel whose strongest assets are its central location and staff, rather than contemporary design. We'd pick it for a straightforward work trip or sightseeing stay: Parliament Hill and the Rideau Canal are walkable, and Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, cleanliness and helpful service. Rooms are generally spacious, making this a practical base rather than a destination hotel.

The trade-offs are worth knowing before booking. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests still describe dated decor and bathrooms despite Marriott's refreshed-room language. Most importantly, Marriott confirms the swimming pool remains closed; Expedia lists pool renovations through May 2028, subject to change. On-site parking is paid valet only, with restrictive garage clearance, and guests report limited restaurant hours. We'd skip it for a pool-focused family stay or a polished luxury break.

• Best for: downtown business trips; sightseeing without a car; travelers prioritizing room space over style

• Watch out for: swimming pool remains closed; dated decor and bathrooms; paid valet parking with low garage clearance

• Location: Walkable to Parliament Hill and the Rideau Canal, with Parliament Station nearby.

• Rooms: Spacious rooms and comfortable beds earn praise, but dated finishes remain a recurring criticism.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength across Booking.com and Expedia, despite occasional maintenance complaints.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are one of the most consistent positives across guest-review sites.

• Amenities: Fitness center, dining and Club Lounge access options; the swimming pool is closed and dining hours can be limited.

• Fees and surprises: Paid valet-only parking cannot accommodate oversized vehicles; confirm dining availability and do not rely on pool listings.
