Axel's take: 6.3/10

A convenient downtown base, but cleanliness and upkeep are too inconsistent for an easy recommendation. A no-frills downtown budget hotel, scored for what it is.

Days Inn Ottawa is a no-frills budget hotel whose main selling point is walkable access to ByWard Market, Rideau Centre and downtown sights. We'd consider it for a short, practical stay rather than a relaxing getaway. Expedia guests often praise helpful staff, spacious rooms and comfortable beds, and some recent visitors report perfectly clean accommodation.

The catch is consistency: Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests also describe tired interiors, missed cleaning and maintenance problems. Several travelers feel uncomfortable around the immediate streets after dark; that is a recurring concern, not proof every guest will feel unsafe. Parking costs extra, and Expedia lists an arrival deposit. We'd skip it if dependable housekeeping, polished surroundings or relaxed evening walks matter more than a central address.

• Best for: Short, budget-conscious downtown visits; Travelers prioritizing sightseeing access over polish

• Watch out for: Uneven housekeeping and dated interiors; Some guests feel uncomfortable outside after dark; Paid parking and an arrival deposit

• Location: Walkable to ByWard Market, Rideau Centre and Rideau Station; immediate surroundings divide guests.

• Rooms: Often described as spacious with comfortable beds, but condition varies and some guests report thin walls.

• Cleanliness: Mixed: clean-room praise sits alongside repeated reports of dirty surfaces and missed housekeeping.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a relative strength, though problem resolution receives some criticism.

• Amenities: Wyndham lists free Wi-Fi, a gym, laundry facilities, room mini-fridges and Mumbai Masala Grill.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and pets carry extra charges; Expedia lists an arrival deposit and says cash is not accepted.
