Axel's take: 7.5/10

A convenient downtown base, but renovations currently compromise the full-service experience. a full-service 4-star downtown high-rise undergoing major renovations, scored for what it is.

Ottawa Marriott is a full-service 4-star high-rise whose downtown location remains its strongest selling point: Parliament Hill is walkable, and Lyon station is close by. We'd consider it for sightseeing or work trips, especially with a renovated room confirmed. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff; the indoor pool and games room add appeal for families.

The catch is substantial ongoing renovation, not simply tired decor. Marriott confirms temporary restaurant relocation, while Expedia lists dining and bar closures and selected-room construction through December 31, 2026, subject to change. Recent guests range from barely inconvenienced to frustrated by noise, makeshift dining and poor advance communication. Room condition also varies as work progresses. We'd skip it for a quiet retreat or a polished, uninterrupted four-star stay.

• Best for: downtown business travelers; sightseers using transit; families comfortable with renovation disruption

• Watch out for: construction noise and disrupted public areas; temporary dining and bar closures; paid parking with low garage clearance

• Location: Walkable to Parliament Hill and Sparks Street, with convenient access to Lyon station.

• Rooms: Renovated rooms earn praise, but older rooms still attract wear-and-tear complaints; confirm your allocation.

• Cleanliness: Broadly positive across guest reviews, including recent stays; cleanliness is a relative strength.

• Service: Helpful staff receive frequent praise, though renovation communication and complaint handling are less consistent.

• Amenities: Indoor heated pool, renovated gym, Kids Zone and games room; restaurant service is temporarily relocated.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra; the garage clearance is 1.82 metres, and renovation dates may change.
