#7 of 9 hotels in Karen by Axel's take. Karen is #5 of 8 places to stay in Nairobi. The best hotels in Karen, ranked · Where to stay in Nairobi

Axel's take: 6.7/10

The pool and Karen location appeal more than the rooms. a basic 3-star hotel and health club in Karen, scored for what it is.

Royale Karen is a basic 3-star hotel with a health-club atmosphere, better suited to a short Karen stop than a stay centered on room comfort. Its outdoor pool, gym, restaurant and free parking are useful strengths. Google’s 3.9/5 looks respectable, but Booking.com’s Royale Health Club listing scores 6.7/10. We’d consider it if the location and leisure facilities matter more than polished accommodation.

The main compromise is upkeep. Guest accounts from 2025 and early 2026 raise concerns about aging rooms, cleanliness and bedding, although some praise helpful staff, breakfast and a clean pool. Tripadvisor’s small, mostly older review collection offers limited reassurance about present conditions. Confirm the room’s condition, hot water and checkout time before booking; published policies differ. We’d skip it for a comfort-focused stay or if consistent housekeeping is essential.

  • Best for: short stays around Karen; travelers prioritizing a pool and gym

  • Watch out for: aging rooms and uneven housekeeping; bedding complaints; conflicting checkout policies

  • Location: Karen setting earns stronger guest feedback than the accommodation itself.

  • Rooms: Basic accommodation; recent accounts flag tired decor and bedding concerns.

  • Cleanliness: Mixed: some praise the pool, while room cleanliness scores less well.

  • Service: Helpful staff receive praise, but older reviews describe inconsistent reception service.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, restaurant and bar; Expedia also lists a spa and no elevator.

  • Fees and surprises: Free parking; confirm breakfast inclusion and checkout, listed from 9 AM to 11:30 AM.
