#1 of 9 hotels in Karen by Axel's take. Karen is #5 of 8 places to stay in Nairobi. The best hotels in Karen, ranked · Where to stay in Nairobi

Axel's take: 9.1/10

A strong Karen base where thoughtful service and spotless rooms outweigh modest facilities. a small, comfortable 3-star garden lodge in Karen, scored for what it is.

Acacia Tree Lodge is a small, comfortable 3-star in leafy Karen, and we'd put it high on the list for a relaxed Nairobi stop before or after safari. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the exceptionally helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. The garden, generous breakfasts and Zeke's Café give it more appeal than a straightforward overnight hotel. It's good value for travelers who prefer personal attention to big-hotel facilities.

The main qualification is sleep: despite the generally peaceful setting, some guests mention thin walls or equipment noise. Light sleepers should request a quieter room. There is no elevator, so anyone needing step-free access should confirm the exact room and route before booking. We'd choose somewhere more central for a downtown-focused stay; this lodge makes most sense for Karen sightseeing and unwinding between journeys.

  • Best for: pre- and post-safari stays; travelers exploring Karen; travelers who value personal service

  • Watch out for: sound carries in some rooms; no elevator; confirm step-free access; not a downtown base

  • Location: Leafy Karen setting suits local sightseeing better than a downtown-focused itinerary.

  • Rooms: Guests praise spacious, comfortable rooms and good showers; sound insulation is less consistent.

  • Cleanliness: A standout strength, with strong cleanliness ratings across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.

  • Service: Repeated praise for warm staff, driver arrangements, luggage storage and help with unusual arrival times.

  • Amenities: Garden, terrace, café, restaurant, complimentary breakfast, Wi-Fi and free parking.

  • Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; parking is limited and should be arranged ahead; no elevator.
