#9 of 9 hotels in Nairobi CBD by Axel's take. Nairobi CBD is #3 of 8 places to stay in Nairobi. The best hotels in Nairobi CBD, ranked · Where to stay in Nairobi

Axel's take: 6.2/10

Central convenience, but noise and uneven room standards make this a cautious pick. An older, basic 3-star hotel in Nairobi’s busy city centre, scored for what it is.

Hotel Ambassadeur is an older, basic 3-star opposite the National Archives, best considered for practical access to Nairobi’s CBD rather than a restful stay. Its restaurant, bar and included breakfast add convenience. Google’s overall rating is substantially stronger than Tripadvisor’s and Expedia’s, so the picture is mixed rather than uniformly bad. We’d consider it for a short, location-first stop, not a comfort-led holiday.

Noise is the clearest recurring drawback: a September 2025 Expedia guest singled it out, echoing reports about the surrounding bus stops. Older reviews describe tired interiors and bathroom problems; a May 2026 Tripadvisor review raises cleanliness and service concerns, although recent overnight feedback is sparse. Ask for a quieter room and confirm its condition before committing. We’d skip it for light sleepers or anyone expecting consistent modern comfort.

  • Best for: Short, location-first CBD stays; Travelers prioritizing nearby public transport

  • Watch out for: Street and bus-stop noise; Dated rooms and bathroom concerns; Limited recent overnight feedback

  • Location: Opposite the National Archives, with central shops and busy bus stops nearby.

  • Rooms: Older interiors; recurring noise reports make advertised soundproofing worth questioning.

  • Cleanliness: Mixed evidence: September 2025 Expedia feedback was positive, but May 2026 Tripadvisor feedback was not.

  • Service: Some guests praise welcoming staff; others report poor customer care.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, bar, free Wi-Fi and buffet breakfast listed; no swimming pool.

  • Fees and surprises: Self-parking is listed as free; airport transfers cost extra and require advance arrangements.
