#2 of 6 hotels in Gigiri by Axel's take. Gigiri is #6 of 8 places to stay in Nairobi. The best hotels in Gigiri, ranked · Where to stay in Nairobi

Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong Gigiri luxury pick, with distinctive design and warmly praised staff. a design-led 5-star boutique hotel in Nairobi’s diplomatic district, scored for what it is.

Gem Forest is a design-led 5-star boutique hotel in Gigiri, and a strong pick if your Nairobi plans revolve around the UN, Village Market or Karura Forest. Its gemstone-inspired interiors give it personality, while Tripadvisor, Expedia and Accor guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms. The spa, gym, rooftop dining and outdoor pool make it appealing for downtime as well as business.

The trade-offs are worth knowing at this level: some standard rooms feel compact, and the pool has limited lounging space. A minority of Expedia and Accor guests describe slow responses to requests or room-maintenance problems, despite overwhelmingly positive service feedback. We'd choose it for a stylish northern-Nairobi base, but skip it for a sprawling resort experience or a trip requiring frequent journeys downtown through traffic.

  • Best for: UN and diplomatic-district business trips; couples wanting design and spa time; travelers prioritizing Gigiri and Village Market

  • Watch out for: compact standard rooms; limited poolside lounging space; occasional slow problem resolution

  • Location: Convenient for the UN and Village Market; downtown journeys require allowing for traffic.

  • Rooms: Distinctive modern decor and comfortable beds; entry-level rooms can feel small.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness feedback across sites, with occasional exceptions rather than a defining pattern.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff are a consistent strength; some guests report delays with requests and repairs.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, Shanta Spa, sauna, steam room, gym and several dining venues, including a rooftop restaurant.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking is included; airport transfers cost extra, and breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.
