#6 of 9 hotels in Paseo de Montejo by Axel's take. Paseo de Montejo is #4 of 7 places to stay in Merida. The best hotels in Paseo de Montejo, ranked · Where to stay in Merida

Axel's take: 8.3/10

Stylish rooms and warm hospitality, but quiet nights are not guaranteed. a small, design-led 4-star boutique near Paseo de Montejo, scored for what it is.

Sureño is a 17-room upscale boutique in a restored 1920s house near Paseo de Montejo and the convention center. It's a strong pick for travelers who want distinctive design rather than a large chain hotel. Tripadvisor's 2026 reviews praise the welcoming team, while Booking.com guests highlight comfortable beds, cleanliness and good food. The rooftop pool and La Mata restaurant give this small property extra appeal.

The main compromise is soundproofing: guests across several sites describe hallway noise, banging doors and rooftop music reaching bedrooms. Expedia reviews also report service becoming stretched during events, although newer Tripadvisor feedback is more positive. Standard rooms are compact, and the main square is farther away than the Centro address might suggest. We'd choose it for a short, design-focused city stay, but light sleepers should ask about events and room placement before booking.

Best for: design-minded couples; short Mérida city breaks; convention-center visitors
Watch out for: hallway and rooftop-event noise; compact standard rooms; service can falter during events
Location: Near Paseo de Montejo and the convention center; not immediately beside the main square.
Rooms: Comfortable, individually styled rooms with air-conditioning; standard rooms are small and sound insulation draws repeated complaints.
Cleanliness: Generally praised across Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Expedia; no clear recurring cleanliness problem.
Service: Warm, helpful staff are a consistent strength, though some Expedia guests report overstretched event-time service.
Amenities: Rooftop outdoor pool, restaurant, bar, free Wi-Fi and elevator; spa listings refer to treatments rather than a confirmed full spa.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast inclusion depends on the booking; minibar costs extra, parking is nearby, and older construction reports remain unconfirmed as current.
