#4 of 9 hotels in Santa Lucía & Santa Ana by Axel's take. Santa Lucía & Santa Ana is #1 of 7 places to stay in Merida. The best hotels in Santa Lucía & Santa Ana, ranked · Where to stay in Merida

Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong-value central base, provided you can live with basic rooms and patchy Wi-Fi. A simple budget hotel with a courtyard pool in Mérida’s historic center, scored for what it is.

Hotel Santa María Mérida is a simple budget hotel in a colonial-style building, two blocks from Parque Santa Lucía. It’s a strong pick for exploring central Mérida on foot without paying for extras you won’t use. Booking.com and Expedia ratings are solid, and recent guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and effective air conditioning. The garden courtyard and small pool add welcome character to an otherwise straightforward stay.

The rooms are functional rather than polished. Some recent Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests describe worn furnishings and bathroom maintenance problems, although the broader cleanliness picture remains positive. Wi-Fi complaints recur across sites, and there’s no elevator. We’d choose it for sightseeing and value, not reliable remote working or a hotel-centered vacation. Travelers needing step-free access should confirm a suitable ground-floor room before booking.

  • Best for: Budget-minded city explorers; Couples prioritizing a walkable location; Travelers wanting a pool without resort frills

  • Watch out for: Patchy Wi-Fi; Uneven room and bathroom upkeep; No elevator

  • Location: Two blocks from Santa Lucía, with the cathedral and main square within an easy walk.

  • Rooms: Basic air-conditioned rooms; recent feedback mixes comfortable stays with worn furnishings and bathroom faults.

  • Cleanliness: Generally well rated across major booking sites, with some recent exceptions.

  • Service: Helpful, attentive staff earn repeated praise, though problem handling receives occasional criticism.

  • Amenities: Small outdoor pool, garden courtyard, free parking and 24-hour reception.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra; confirm late arrival arrangements because Expedia lists a limited check-in window.
