Axel's take: 7.1/10

A practical central base, provided you can forgive tired rooms and uneven upkeep. An older, budget-friendly city hotel in central Mérida, scored for what it is.

Los Aluxes is an older, budget-friendly city hotel whose strongest selling point is its walkable location between Santa Lucía and Paseo de Montejo. We'd consider it for sightseeing rather than a hotel-focused getaway: an outdoor pool, free parking and on-site dining add useful convenience. Expedia guests frequently praise the staff, while some recent Tripadvisor reviewers describe comfortable, clean rooms and enjoyable family stays.

The catch is inconsistent upkeep. Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests repeatedly mention aging furniture, deteriorated bathrooms and plumbing problems; reception service also gets mixed reports. Cleanliness earns plenty of positive feedback, but it isn't uniformly dependable. It's a reasonable choice if location matters more than polish. We'd skip it if you want reliably modern bathrooms, consistently attentive service or a room that feels freshly maintained.

• Best for: Sightseers exploring central Mérida on foot; Budget-conscious travelers wanting a pool; Drivers needing included parking

• Watch out for: Dated rooms and recurring bathroom maintenance complaints; Uneven reception service; Inconsistent housekeeping reports

• Location: Strong walking base near Santa Lucía, Paseo de Montejo and the historic center.

• Rooms: Air-conditioned rooms; aging furnishings and bathroom leaks recur in guest feedback.

• Cleanliness: Generally satisfactory ratings, tempered by some reports of dirty floors and unpleasant smells.

• Service: Many guests praise helpful staff, but reception attitude and problem handling vary.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, restaurant, bars, Wi-Fi and complimentary self-parking.

• Fees and surprises: Pet stays carry a fee and deposit; confirm breakfast inclusion for your booking.
