Axel's take: 6.9/10

Useful downtown location and free parking, but tired rooms make this a compromise. a basic, aging 3-star hotel in Mérida’s historic center, scored for what it is.

Hotel Ambassador Mérida is a basic, aging 3-star hotel, now part of Grupo Kavia, about 500 meters from Plaza Grande. We'd consider it for a budget sightseeing stay: the central location, free parking and outdoor pool are practical advantages. Expedia guests often praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff, though Tripadvisor’s overall verdict is considerably less favorable.

The main compromise is inconsistent upkeep. Recent reviews across sites describe dated furnishings, unreliable hot water and occasional air-conditioning failures; several also report cleanliness problems or insects, alongside plenty of satisfactory stays. Trip.com guests flag slow, aging elevators, too. It can work if you mainly need somewhere inexpensive to sleep, but we'd skip it if dependable room condition and polished service matter more than location.

  • Best for: budget-minded downtown sightseeing; travelers bringing a car; short, no-frills stays

  • Watch out for: dated rooms and uneven maintenance; unreliable hot water and occasional AC faults; recurring cleanliness complaints, including insects

  • Location: About 500 meters from Plaza Grande, with historic-center sights and restaurants within walking distance.

  • Rooms: Basic air-conditioned rooms; recent guests repeatedly describe worn fittings and inconsistent plumbing or cooling.

  • Cleanliness: Many Expedia guests praise cleanliness, but insect, odor and bathroom-cleaning complaints recur across sites.

  • Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, although reception and problem handling receive mixed reports.

  • Amenities: The hotel lists an outdoor pool, garden, restaurant, free Wi-Fi and free parking; guests flag aging elevators.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking is advertised as free; confirm breakfast inclusion, as one recent Expedia guest reported a booking mismatch.
