Axel's take: 8.3/10

A comfortable El Poblado base, stronger on location and facilities than luxury polish. a traditional full-service five-star hotel in El Poblado, scored for what it is.

Dann Carlton is a traditional five-star hotel in El Poblado, and we'd pick it for comfortable city stays rather than cutting-edge luxury. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the cleanliness, comfortable beds, helpful staff and convenient location. The outdoor pool, gym and breakfast buffet make it a particularly practical base for mixing sightseeing with downtime.

The trade-off is uneven polish. Recent Tripadvisor reviews describe worn room details, fluctuating shower temperatures and inconsistent responses when problems arise, although Expedia's recent feedback is substantially more positive. Breakfast wins plenty of praise, but some guests find it repetitive or poorly replenished. It's a strong pick if location and full-service facilities matter most; we'd skip it if you expect fresh interiors and consistently meticulous five-star service.

• Best for: first-time Medellín visitors; couples wanting a pool and walkable dining; business travelers seeking full-service facilities

• Watch out for: some rooms show wear; reports of fluctuating shower temperatures; uneven problem handling

• Location: Convenient El Poblado setting near restaurants and Parque Lleras; the metro is a longer walk.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and generous space draw praise, but some recent guests report worn details and plumbing issues.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength overall, with strong cleanliness ratings on Booking.com and Expedia.

• Service: Usually praised as friendly and helpful; complaint resolution is less consistent in Tripadvisor feedback.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, spa and several restaurants; the hotel says the pool was recently renovated.

• Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; official terms require a credit card or cash deposit at check-in.
