Axel's take: 8.8/10

Come for the food and thoughtful service, but choose your room carefully. A dining-led luxury boutique hotel in El Poblado, scored for what it is.

Elcielo is a 28-room luxury boutique hotel in El Poblado’s Astorga neighborhood, and it’s a strong pick for couples who make food part of the trip. Its plant-filled design, destination dining and rooftop spa give it personality beyond a conventional city hotel. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the staff, cleanliness and breakfast; the overall feedback is firmly positive.

The compromise is space: standard rooms repeatedly disappoint guests expecting generous luxury accommodation, so check the actual dimensions rather than trusting the suite label. Recent reviews also flag noisy air-conditioning and some sound transfer between rooms. The rooftop pool is compact, and Expedia lists Monday closures. A July 2026 guest reported pool renovation, though a September guest subsequently described using it. We’d choose it for a food-focused city break, but skip it if spacious rooms and dependable silence are priorities.

• Best for: Couples on a food-focused city break; Travelers who prefer intimate luxury hotels; Spa and restaurant enthusiasts

• Watch out for: Compact standard rooms with limited luggage space; Reports of noisy air-conditioning and thin walls; Rooftop pool closed Mondays according to Expedia

• Location: Astorga in El Poblado, within walking distance of restaurants, Poblado Park and the metro.

• Rooms: Stylish and comfortable, but standard categories can feel cramped; compare floor areas before booking.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across sources, including strong Booking.com and Expedia cleanliness ratings.

• Service: Warm, attentive staff earn widespread praise, with occasional slow breakfast service and uneven follow-through.

• Amenities: Three dining venues, rooftop spa, outdoor pool and gym; pool and fitness facilities are modest in size.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion and applicable taxes; confirm pool availability after reported July 2026 renovation.
