#5 of 5 hotels in UW Campus & State Street by Axel's take. UW Campus & State Street is #2 of 5 places to stay in Madison, Wisconsin. The best hotels in UW Campus & State Street, ranked · Where to stay in Madison, Wisconsin

Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong campus pick for character and service, less so for spacious rooms. a collegiate-themed 4-star boutique hotel beside UW–Madison, scored for what it is.

Graduate by Hilton Madison is a collegiate-themed 4-star boutique hotel whose biggest strengths are its location and people. We'd choose it for UW visits: State Street, Memorial Union Terrace and Lake Mendota are within easy walking distance. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming front desk and valet staff, while cleanliness earns strong overall marks. Wisconsin-themed interiors, Poindexter Coffee and the Camp Trippalindee rooftop bar give this small hotel more personality than a standard chain stay.

The trade-off is that playful decor doesn't make every room feel upscale. Guests across sites describe some bedrooms and bathrooms as small or dated, and the gym is modest. Noise appears in some accounts, though it isn't the dominant complaint. A mandatory destination charge and paid valet parking add extras to weigh. We'd skip it if generous space and polished luxury matter more than campus access and character.

  • Best for: UW–Madison parents and campus visitors; couples exploring downtown on foot; travelers who enjoy collegiate design

  • Watch out for: some small or dated rooms and bathrooms; mandatory destination charge and paid valet; possible noise; modest gym

  • Location: Excellent for walking to UW, State Street and Memorial Union Terrace.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds and distinctive decor; some guests find rooms and bathrooms compact or dated.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall ratings and frequent praise, with occasional bathroom-cleaning complaints.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful front desk and valet staff are consistent highlights.

  • Amenities: Rooftop restaurant/bar, lobby coffee shop and small gym; bicycle rentals included in the destination charge.

  • Fees and surprises: Mandatory destination charge includes a food-and-beverage credit; valet, breakfast and pets cost extra, and Hilton lists no self-parking.
