#8 of 9 hotels in Capitol Square & Downtown by Axel's take. Capitol Square & Downtown is #1 of 5 places to stay in Madison, Wisconsin. The best hotels in Capitol Square & Downtown, ranked · Where to stay in Madison, Wisconsin

Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong downtown base for clean rooms and Capitol views, with extras to budget for. a modern, upper-midrange Marriott hotel beside Capitol Square, scored for what it is.

This upper-midrange Marriott is a strong pick for exploring downtown Madison on foot. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms and helpful staff, while Capitol-facing rooms make the location feel especially worthwhile. Eno Vino’s rooftop dining and skyline views give it more appeal than a straightforward business hotel. We’d choose it for a downtown weekend or work trip rather than a resort-style stay.

The trade-offs are practical: breakfast costs extra, on-site parking is valet-only, and the hotel currently flags limited breakfast service during a space refresh. Some guests also report rooms that stay warmer than they prefer; noise beneath the rooftop venue is worth asking about. We’d skip it if sleeping cool, guaranteed quiet or included breakfast matters more than location and design.

  • Best for: couples exploring downtown; business travelers; Capitol Square weekends

  • Watch out for: paid breakfast and valet-only on-site parking; warm-room complaints from some guests; possible noise beneath the rooftop venue

  • Location: Steps from Capitol Square, with restaurants and downtown attractions readily walkable.

  • Rooms: Modern rooms earn comfort praise; views vary, and some guests find temperature control restrictive.

  • Cleanliness: A clear strength across recent guest feedback, supported by strong cleanliness ratings.

  • Service: Generally helpful front-desk and valet teams, with occasional less-positive accounts.

  • Amenities: Fitness center, lounges and rooftop Eno Vino dining; no airport shuttle.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast, valet parking and pets incur charges; Marriott currently advertises limited breakfast during a refresh.
