#7 of 9 hotels in Airport & Pashupatinath by Axel's take. Airport & Pashupatinath is #7 of 8 places to stay in Kathmandu. The best hotels in Airport & Pashupatinath, ranked · Where to stay in Kathmandu

Axel's take: 6.8/10

Temple convenience and helpful staff, but room standards are uneven. A basic budget hotel near Pashupatinath Temple, advertised as three-star, scored for what it is.

Shiva Shankar is a basic budget hotel near Pashupatinath Temple, better approached as a practical pilgrimage base than a polished three-star stay. Its strongest selling points are the short walk to the temple and personal assistance from the owner and staff. Booking.com and MakeMyTrip guests repeatedly praise helpful service, including travel arrangements, while vegetarian meals are another recurring positive. We'd consider it for a short, temple-focused visit with modest expectations.

The trade-off is inconsistent upkeep. Alongside recent reports of clean, comfortable rooms, guests across Tripadvisor, Google reviews reproduced by Wanderlog, and Hotels.com describe dirty bedding, maintenance problems or unreliable hot water. That makes it harder to recommend for travelers who need dependable room standards. Ask to inspect your room, test the shower and confirm breakfast inclusions; anyone arriving late should also confirm access arrangements.

  • Best for: Budget-conscious Pashupatinath pilgrims; Vegetarian travelers; Short stays centered on temple visits

  • Watch out for: Uneven cleanliness and room maintenance; Hot-water and shower-pressure complaints; Confirm late-night access before arrival

  • Location: A short walk from Pashupatinath Temple; especially convenient for pilgrimage visits.

  • Rooms: Basic accommodation with inconsistent upkeep; inspect the room and test the shower.

  • Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, but recent complaints about bedding and hygiene recur across sites.

  • Service: Helpful staff and owner receive consistent praise, especially for organizing transport and trips.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, Wi-Fi and parking are listed; guests frequently praise vegetarian food.

  • Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; confirm breakfast inclusions, parking arrangements and payment methods.
