#1 of 9 hotels in Lazimpat by Axel's take. Lazimpat is #4 of 8 places to stay in Kathmandu. The best hotels in Lazimpat, ranked · Where to stay in Kathmandu

Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong Kathmandu base, with welcoming staff and rooftop dining worth staying in for. a locally run 4-star city hotel in Lazimpat, scored for what it is.

Ambassador is a locally run 4-star city hotel in Lazimpat, and a strong pick for comfortable sightseeing or business stays. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, clean, spacious rooms and rooftop dining; Booking.com also scores comfort and cleanliness particularly highly. Thamel is walkable without putting you in the middle of its busiest lanes. It delivers the essentials convincingly rather than relying on luxury trimmings.

The main caveat is the busy-road setting. The hotel advertises triple-glazed windows, and many guests sleep well, but some report disruptive outside noise: light sleepers should request a quieter room. There’s a gym and spa, but no swimming pool. We'd skip it if poolside downtime or reliably silent surroundings are priorities; otherwise, the service and location make a persuasive case.

Best for: couples exploring Kathmandu; business travelers; travelers who enjoy rooftop dining
Watch out for: possible road noise; no swimming pool; check breakfast and transfer inclusions
Location: Walkable to Thamel, Garden of Dreams and Durbar Marg, but beside busy roads.
Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable; triple glazing helps, but does not guarantee silence.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback and booking-site category scores.
Service: Friendly, attentive staff are the clearest recurring highlight across sites.
Amenities: Multiple dining options, rooftop restaurant, gym and spa; no swimming pool.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast and airport transfers can cost extra; early check-in and late checkout may carry fees.
