Hotels in KathmanduA basic independent budget hotel in Thamel
5.7/10
Convenient for Thamel, but unreliable room basics make this a cautious budget choice.
Hotel Gallery Nepal is a basic budget hotel on Z Street, not the upscale four-star stay some listings suggest. Its own website pitches budget accommodation, and the strongest reasons to consider it are Thamel convenience and staff who often help with travel arrangements. Tripadvisor's strong rating largely reflects older praise; Expedia has a positive April 2026 rating, but Booking.com's overall picture is substantially weaker.
The recent detail gives us pause. MakeMyTrip guests in late 2025 and 2026 repeatedly describe cramped rooms, missing amenities, uneven cleaning and bathroom problems; hot-water difficulties also appear in Booking.com guest feedback. Some guests still report clean, comfortable stays and good food, so this is inconsistent rather than uniformly bad. We'd consider it only for an undemanding short stop after confirming the room; skip it if dependable cleanliness, working bathrooms or four-star comfort matter.

Best for: budget travelers prioritizing Thamel; undemanding short stays
Watch out for: uneven cleaning and room maintenance; unreliable hot water and bathroom plumbing; room amenities may differ from listings
Location: Central Z Street base for Thamel's shops, restaurants and travel services.
Rooms: Basic private-bathroom rooms; recent guests repeatedly mention cramped space and missing amenities.
Cleanliness: Mixed reports, with several late-2025 and 2026 complaints about rooms and bathrooms.
Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, but housekeeping and problem handling are inconsistent.
Amenities: Listings advertise Wi-Fi, Grill Oregano restaurant and a rooftop terrace; confirm air-conditioning for your room.
Fees and surprises: Expedia lists charges for breakfast, parking and airport transfers; confirm inclusions and exact room features.
