#4 of 8 hotels in Patan & Jhamsikhel by Axel's take. Patan & Jhamsikhel is #2 of 8 places to stay in Kathmandu. The best hotels in Patan & Jhamsikhel, ranked · Where to stay in Kathmandu

Axel's take: 8.3/10

A welcoming Patan base whose staff outshine its uneven room condition. a mid-range boutique hotel and serviced-apartment compound in Patan, scored for what it is.

Shaligram is a mid-range boutique hotel and serviced-apartment compound in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur—not a conventional luxury four-star. It’s a strong pick for longer stays, with kitchen-equipped apartments, nearby cafés and shops, and useful wellness facilities. Tripadvisor and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, spacious accommodation and cleanliness; Deli Akuj’s breakfasts also earn enthusiastic mentions.

The trade-off is consistency. Some Booking.com and Expedia guests describe dated furnishings, maintenance faults or bathroom smells, despite the broadly positive ratings. Choose your room category carefully rather than assuming every wing matches the photos. A Google review displayed on the hotel’s website reports construction next door; its date and whether work continues are unclear, so check before booking. Breakfast and airport transfers can cost extra. We’d skip it for polished luxury, but shortlist it for a practical, personable Patan stay.

Best for: long-stay visitors and business travelers; families wanting kitchen-equipped apartments; travelers prioritizing Patan over central Kathmandu
Watch out for: uneven room condition and occasional bathroom smells; reported neighboring construction; current status unconfirmed; breakfast inclusion varies
Location: Jawalakhel in Lalitpur/Patan, convenient for neighborhood cafés, shops and the zoo rather than a central Kathmandu base.
Rooms: Rooms, suites and apartments offer varied layouts; guests often praise space, but some report dated furniture and faulty fittings.
Cleanliness: Generally well reviewed for housekeeping, with occasional bathroom-odor complaints across Booking.com and Expedia.
Service: Warm, helpful staff are the clearest recurring strength across guest-review sites.
Amenities: The official site confirms a gym, spa, sauna/steam facilities, heated pool/Jacuzzi, café and restaurant.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast and airport transfers may be extra; confirm neighboring construction status and room-specific access before booking.
