#4 of 5 hotels in Durbar Marg & Naxal by Axel's take. Durbar Marg & Naxal is #3 of 8 places to stay in Kathmandu. The best hotels in Durbar Marg & Naxal, ranked · Where to stay in Kathmandu

Axel's take: 7.8/10

Appealing courtyards and warm hospitality, but confirm it has reopened before booking. A small, heritage-style 3-star hotel in Kamalpokhari, scored for what it is.

Hukum Darbar is a small, heritage-style 3-star in Kamalpokhari, better suited to travelers seeking character than big-hotel facilities. Tripadvisor guests praise its garden courtyards, clean, comfortable rooms and unusually helpful staff. Booking.com reviews reproduced by Planet of Hotels echo the praise for hospitality and generous breakfasts. It looks like a good alternative to staying amid Thamel’s bustle, provided the hotel confirms it is operating.

The biggest caution is practical: Google currently marks the property temporarily closed, despite booking sites still advertising rooms. Get direct confirmation before committing. Detailed guest accounts are also sparse and mostly from 2024–2025, so current conditions are less certain. Guests put the walk to Thamel at roughly 20–30 minutes; we'd skip it if nightlife on the doorstep or a fully verified, hassle-free booking matters most.

Best for: Travelers who prefer heritage character; Visitors happy to stay outside Thamel
Watch out for: Google flags a temporary closure; Limited recent guest evidence; Thamel requires a walk or ride
Location: Tucked-away Kamalpokhari setting; guests estimate 20–30 minutes on foot to Thamel.
Rooms: Air-conditioned twin, double and family options; older guest accounts describe comfortable rooms.
Cleanliness: Strong praise across Tripadvisor and Booking.com-derived reviews, though recent evidence is limited.
Service: Helpful, courteous staff are the clearest recurring strength in available guest accounts.
Amenities: Restaurant, bar, garden courtyards and free Wi-Fi are listed; confirm what is currently operating.
Fees and surprises: Resolve the temporary-closure flag directly; airport transfers are listed as an additional charge.
