#3 of 5 hotels in Durbar Marg & Naxal by Axel's take. Durbar Marg & Naxal is #3 of 8 places to stay in Kathmandu. The best hotels in Durbar Marg & Naxal, ranked · Where to stay in Kathmandu

Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong central base with warm service, but five-star comfort isn't entirely consistent. a heritage-style 5-star with gardens in central Kathmandu, scored for what it is.

Hotel Yak & Yeti is a heritage-style 5-star on Durbar Marg, with historic Lal Durbar architecture and gardens that give it more character than a standard business hotel. We'd choose it for a comfortable central base with generous outdoor space. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, clean rooms and varied breakfast; newer rooms also draw positive comments.

The reservation is consistency rather than hospitality. Room styles differ, and recurring complaints about warm rooms and difficult temperature controls matter at this level. Weddings can disturb the otherwise peaceful setting, so request a room away from event spaces. The hotel also acknowledged a casino closure in July 2026; confirm reopening before relying on it. We'd skip it if guaranteed quiet and precise bedroom cooling are priorities.

Best for: sightseers wanting a central base; travelers who value heritage character; families wanting gardens and a pool
Watch out for: wedding and event noise; inconsistent room cooling; casino reopening needs confirmation
Location: Central Durbar Marg, near shops and the former royal palace; roughly a kilometer from Thamel.
Rooms: Different wings offer different styles; comfort is generally praised, but temperature control draws repeated complaints.
Cleanliness: Recent feedback is predominantly positive, especially for bedrooms.
Service: Friendly, attentive staff are the most consistent strength across review sites.
Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, spa, tennis and gardens; the advertised casino was acknowledged closed in July 2026.
Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; airport transfers, extra beds and early or late check-out can cost extra.
