#1 of 8 hotels in Patan & Jhamsikhel by Axel's take. Patan & Jhamsikhel is #2 of 8 places to stay in Kathmandu. The best hotels in Patan & Jhamsikhel, ranked · Where to stay in Kathmandu

Axel's take: 9.3/10

A standout small hotel for exploring Patan, with warm service and excellent breakfasts. a small, Newari-style 3-star boutique hotel in old Patan, scored for what it is.

Hotel Timila is a small, Newari-style 3-star in old Patan, a few minutes’ walk from Durbar Square. It’s an exceptionally strong pick for travelers who want neighborhood character without sacrificing comfort. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Agoda guests consistently praise the clean, comfortable rooms, genuinely helpful staff and generous breakfasts. The garden courtyard and rooftop terrace give this little hotel appealing places to unwind, while studios and apartments add options for longer stays.

The main compromises are practical: there’s no elevator or onsite parking, and the narrow approach can mean walking the final stretch with luggage. Breakfast inclusion varies by booking, and airport pickup costs extra. We’d choose it for exploring Patan on foot, but skip it if step-free access or reliable door-to-door vehicle access is essential.

  • Best for: travelers exploring Patan’s heritage; couples seeking a small boutique hotel; longer stays in studios or apartments

  • Watch out for: no elevator; narrow-lane vehicle access and no onsite parking; check breakfast inclusion

  • Location: In old Patan, Lalitpur, a short walk from Durbar Square and the Golden Temple.

  • Rooms: Comfortable, characterful air-conditioned rooms; studios and apartments offer kitchens.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest reviews, with especially strong Booking.com ratings.

  • Service: Guests repeatedly praise friendly, attentive staff and help arranging transport.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, garden courtyard, rooftop terrace and free Wi-Fi; breakfasts receive frequent praise.

  • Fees and surprises: Airport pickup is extra; breakfast depends on the booking; no elevator or onsite parking.
