Excellent Kona walkability, but choose the exact unit carefully.

Kona Islander is a budget condo-style inn, not a conventional full-service hotel. Its strongest selling point is downtown Kona: restaurants, shops and the waterfront are an easy walk away. Tropical grounds, a pool and barbecue areas add appeal, and some recent Expedia and Booking.com guests describe clean, comfortable studios. We'd consider it for a simple sightseeing base, provided the exact unit has convincing recent reviews.

The catch is inconsistency. Units have different owners and managers, and praise for one doesn't guarantee another.
