#1 of 7 hotels in East Parkway by Axel's take. East Parkway is #4 of 6 places to stay in Gatlinburg. The best hotels in East Parkway, ranked · Where to stay in Gatlinburg

Axel's take: 8.7/10

Clean rooms, welcoming staff and creekside balconies make this a strong budget pick. a family-run, no-frills 2-star motel beside Dudley Creek, scored for what it is.

Sleepy Bear is a family-run, no-frills 2-star motel that gets the important things right. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and genuinely helpful staff. The motel says its rooms have been renovated, though this remains an older roadside property rather than a modern hotel. Creek-facing balconies are a highlight, and the complimentary cooked-to-order weekend breakfast adds real value.

The trade-offs are small bathrooms, some reports of fluctuating shower temperatures, and occasional road or neighboring-room noise. There is no elevator, and the outdoor pool is seasonal. Despite the official site's “short walk” description, we'd plan on the nearby free trolley for downtown outings. It's a strong pick for budget-minded couples and families; skip it if you need step-free access guaranteed or downtown attractions immediately outside.

Best for: budget-minded couples; families wanting a simple base; travelers who enjoy creekside balconies
Watch out for: small bathrooms and variable shower temperatures; some road and neighboring-room noise; no elevator
Location: Outside the busiest downtown stretch; nearby free trolley stops make sightseeing practical.
Rooms: Updated but still old-school, with comfortable beds, microwaves, mini fridges and balcony options.
Cleanliness: Consistently praised across recent guest reviews, with only scattered exceptions.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are one of the clearest recurring strengths.
Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, seasonal outdoor pool and complimentary cooked-to-order weekend breakfast; weekday coffee only.
Fees and surprises: Parking is complimentary; pets are not allowed, and breakfast is not a daily full meal.
