Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong budget base for exploring Gatlinburg on foot, with some plumbing caveats. a renovated budget motel just off downtown Gatlinburg's main strip, scored for what it is.

This budget motel, formerly Howard Johnson and now Best Western, is a strong pick for travelers who prioritize location and practical comforts. Best Western dates its renovation to April 2026. Booking.com and recent Expedia guests consistently praise clean rooms, helpful staff and the easy walk to downtown attractions. Free parking, included breakfast and rooms with balconies, microwaves and mini-fridges make it good value for couples and families.

The refresh hasn't eliminated every older-building issue: several guests mention weak shower pressure, slow hot water or drainage problems. The outdoor pool is seasonal, not a year-round swimming option, and there's no gym. We'd choose it for a comfortable sightseeing base rather than a hotel-centered vacation; skip it if dependable swimming facilities or polished, full-service surroundings are priorities.

  • Best for: budget-minded couples; families exploring downtown; travelers who want to park and walk

  • Watch out for: occasional shower pressure and hot-water problems; seasonal outdoor pool; motel-style exterior corridors

  • Location: Just off the Parkway, within easy walking distance of Anakeesta, Ripley's Aquarium and restaurants.

  • Rooms: Renovated in April 2026; balcony rooms include microwaves and mini-fridges, though plumbing complaints persist.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia guest reviews.

  • Service: Guests repeatedly praise friendly front-desk staff and attentive breakfast service.

  • Amenities: Included breakfast, free Wi-Fi and a seasonal outdoor pool; no fitness center.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking is free; early arrival or late departure can cost extra, and the official site restricts local residents.
