Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong choice for clean rooms and friendly service, if you can manage the hill. a straightforward 3-star chain hotel uphill from Gatlinburg’s main strip, scored for what it is.

This straightforward 3-star Fairfield is a strong pick for travelers who want dependable comfort rather than resort extras. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms, helpful staff and a worthwhile included breakfast. Being off the main strip brings a quieter setting without putting downtown out of walking range. In-room microwaves and mini-fridges make it practical for families and hikers.

The main compromise is the uphill walk back from town, especially after a day on the trails. Parking carries a daily charge, which has surprised guests on both sites. There is no indoor pool: Marriott currently posts the outdoor pool as closed until spring. We'd choose it for a comfortable sightseeing base, but skip it if easy, level walking or year-round swimming matters most.

  • Best for: families wanting dependable basics; Smokies hikers; couples who prefer a quieter base

  • Watch out for: uphill return walk from downtown; daily parking charge; outdoor pool currently listed as seasonally closed

  • Location: Walkable to downtown attractions, but the uphill return is a recurring caveat.

  • Rooms: Guests praise spacious, comfortable rooms; Marriott confirms microwaves and mini-fridges.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff receive repeated praise.

  • Amenities: Included breakfast, gym, whirlpool and fire pit; outdoor pool currently listed as closed until spring.

  • Fees and surprises: On-site parking costs extra; Marriott lists housekeeping every other day.
