#2 of 9 hotels in Calton Hill & Broughton by Axel's take. Calton Hill & Broughton is #3 of 7 places to stay in Edinburgh. The best hotels in Calton Hill & Broughton, ranked · Where to stay in Edinburgh

Axel's take: 8.6/10

A characterful central base with strong service, but stairs need planning. a historic 3-star townhouse hotel beside Calton Hill, scored for what it is.

Parliament House is a historic 3-star townhouse hotel that delivers well on the essentials: clean, comfortable rooms, welcoming staff and a central address that usually feels removed from the crowds. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise that combination. Waverley and Princes Street are close, making it a strong pick for exploring without a car. The hotel also announced another refurbished wing in May 2025.

The main compromise is access: some bedrooms and the breakfast room require stairs, despite a lift serving other rooms. Confirm your exact room if mobility matters. Expect breakfast and drinks in the snug rather than a full-service restaurant; lunch and dinner aren't offered. One September 2026 Expedia guest reported surrounding construction, so check current works before arrival. We'd choose it for character and convenience, not extensive facilities or guaranteed step-free access.

Best for: couples on sightseeing breaks; rail travelers; travelers who prefer period character
Watch out for: stairs to some rooms and breakfast; no lunch or dinner service; nearby construction reported in September 2026
Location: Central but generally quiet; approach via Waterloo Place to avoid the steeper cobbled route.
Rooms: Individual period layouts; refurbished wings and comfortable beds draw strong praise.
Cleanliness: Consistently positive across sites, including recent Expedia and Booking.com reviews.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength; reception operates around the clock.
Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, cooked breakfast and a fireside snug; no pool, spa or full-service restaurant.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on the booking; parking is paid and off-site. Check nearby works before arrival.
