#4 of 9 hotels in Old Town by Axel's take. Old Town is #2 of 7 places to stay in Edinburgh. The best hotels in Old Town, ranked · Where to stay in Edinburgh

Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong self-catering base, with a better location than polish. a practical 4-star aparthotel on the Royal Mile, scored for what it is.

This practical 4-star aparthotel on the Royal Mile is a strong pick for travelers who want a kitchen and an easy sightseeing base rather than full-service hotel treatment. Studios and one-bedroom apartments make longer stays straightforward. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff and walkable location, and overall guest ratings remain strong.

The trade-off is consistency. Most feedback is positive, but several recent Tripadvisor guests describe dirty floors, worn furnishings and weak showers, alongside others reporting spotless, comfortable apartments. Daily housekeeping is not standard; extra cleaning costs more, and parking is off-site. We'd choose it for independent city breaks and families who will use the kitchen, but skip it if polished interiors and daily servicing are priorities.

Best for: families wanting a kitchen; longer city breaks; sightseeing without a car
Watch out for: daily housekeeping costs extra; uneven room upkeep; no on-site parking
Location: On Canongate in the Old Town, around ten minutes' walk from Waverley station.
Rooms: Useful kitchens and apartment layouts; some recent guests report worn furnishings and weak showers.
Cleanliness: Strong overall ratings, but repeated recent Tripadvisor complaints about floors and dust deserve attention.
Service: Helpful, welcoming reception staff are a recurring strength across guest-review sites.
Amenities: Kitchen facilities, fitness room, guest laundry and optional breakfast favor independent stays.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast, additional cleaning and nearby parking cost extra; housekeeping is not daily as standard.
