Axel's take: 6.8/10

A handy nightlife base, but late music and uneven rooms compromise the stay. a basic 3-star hotel attached to a lively Temple Bar pub, scored for what it is.

Fitzsimons is a basic 3-star hotel attached to a busy Temple Bar pub, best chosen for nights out rather than restful nights in. Its riverside location makes central Dublin easy to explore on foot, and Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff. Rooms offer straightforward comforts, including walk-in showers and tea-making facilities; some guests find them clean and comfortable.

The catch is substantial: Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews repeatedly describe late music, street noise and worn carpets, while several recent guests report stuffy rooms without air-conditioning. The hotel itself warns about nighttime noise. Breakfast gets mixed reports, and cleanliness is not consistently praised. We'd consider it for a short, nightlife-focused trip, but skip it for quiet evenings or dependable comfort. Check the booking terms carefully: deposits and additional third-party booking surcharges can apply.

• Best for: friends visiting for nightlife; short stays focused on central Dublin

• Watch out for: late music and street noise; stuffy rooms and worn carpets; deposits and third-party booking surcharges

• Location: Riverside Temple Bar setting, convenient for pubs, restaurants and walking around central Dublin.

• Rooms: Basic en-suite rooms; guests praise some bathrooms but repeatedly flag heat, noise and worn carpets.

• Cleanliness: Many clean-room reports, balanced by recurring complaints about stained carpets and occasional linen issues.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a frequent strength, though problem handling receives some criticism.

• Amenities: Live-music bars, rooftop bar, restaurant, Wi-Fi and lift; breakfast depends on the booked rate.

• Fees and surprises: Security deposit required; official terms list third-party surcharges for larger groups and stays of three nights or more; post-checkout luggage storage costs extra.
