Axel's take: 8.3/10

A dependable canal-side base with strong breakfast and easy tram access. a comfortable 4-star chain hotel beside the Grand Canal, scored for what it is.

Hilton Dublin is a comfortable 4-star chain hotel beside the Grand Canal, rather than in Dublin’s busiest sightseeing streets. It’s a strong pick for travelers who want reliable comfort and convenient transport: Charlemont’s Luas stop is practically outside. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, clean rooms and generous breakfast. The completed extension and refurbishment have improved the hotel, with newer rooms earning particularly good feedback.

The main caveat is room consistency: some recent Tripadvisor guests still describe older rooms, so requesting a refurbished one is worthwhile. Occasional street, corridor and event noise also crops up, although it does not dominate the feedback. Parking costs extra, and breakfast is not included with every booking. We’d skip it if doorstep nightlife or boutique character matters more than practical comfort.

• Best for: city breaks using the Luas; business travelers; travelers preferring a canal-side base

• Watch out for: older and refurbished rooms differ; occasional street, corridor or event noise; parking and some breakfast plans cost extra

• Location: Beside the Grand Canal and Charlemont Luas; sightseeing requires some walking or a tram ride.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and spacious; request a refurbished room because recent feedback suggests variation.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com and Expedia, despite occasional isolated lapses.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff receive frequent praise; some busy-period check-in complaints.

• Amenities: Gym, free Wi-Fi, The Sixth Lock restaurant and bar, terrace and meeting rooms.

• Fees and surprises: Paid underground parking; check breakfast inclusion. The extension contractor reports the works complete.
